A Way you can express by words is not an eternal Way; A name you can say is not an eternal name.
Non-being* is the origin of the universe; Being is the mother of all things. This is why, by studying Non-Being, we can perceive its subtlety; by studying Being, we can see its trace.
These two things share a common origin and receive different names. They are both mysterious, mysterious among all mysterious. They are the origin of all mysterious things in the world.

* “无名" here should be understood as "Non-being called…" but not "Unamed" used by some translators. "Non-being" as virtual, spirit, intangible, Yin… . "Being" as the contrary of "Non-being".
